Tips to Prepare for Demolition Services
September 17, 2020 | Concrete
Demolition is a part of doing business. Whether you’re remodeling a single room or clearing the way for a bold new construction project, the first step in any new build is to remove what’s there to create a fresh canvas for your design. If that sounds like you, there are some steps you can take to make sure your demo runs as smoothly as possible. Here are some tips to prepare for demolition in Indiana.
Clear out the space
Rare is the demolition site that doesn’t have some items of use. Maybe it’s salvageable construction materials. Maybe it’s just some items of personal value. Either way, before you have any demolition done, make sure you and any applicable personnel have walked through the property and removed any items that you don’t want to be crushed into little bits.
Don’t wait until the last minute with item removal, either—you want to give yourself a large buffer of time to make sure you’ve removed anything important.
Seal off the area
Regardless of how many notes you send to the local community or messages you leave for your employees, you can almost count on someone not realizing that demolition is being performed. You can protect against any accidents by closing off the area for demolition. Additionally, make sure to put up prominent signage in a wide area around the demo site to ensure that no one stumbles through the destruction zone without realizing it.
Go off-site
One of the most essential tips to prepare for demolition in Indiana is to simply not be there. Regardless of how big or small the demolition job, you should seriously consider moving your crew to another site, if possible. Not only is demolition loud, but it also involves an enormous amount of back and forth. Even worse, it generates a lot of dust and debris. None of those are ideal work conditions, regardless of what industry you’re in.
Let the pros handle it
You might think that building demolition is a relatively straightforward process, but you’d be mistaken. There is more skill involved than you might at first realize. For example, if you’re demolishing a wall with electrical wiring, you run the risk of a fire breaking out if you’re not careful. What’s more, completing a demo project safely requires a variety of essential precautions (face masks, long pants, goggles, etc.) that you may not have on hand. As a result, it’s best to leave demo jobs to crews with the necessary experience and gear.
